57 You are my portion, O LORD;

I have said that I would keep Your words.

58 I entreated Your favor with my whole heart;

Be merciful to me according to Your word.

59 I thought about my ways,

And turned my feet to Your testimonies.

60 I made haste, and did not delay

To keep Your commandments.

61 The cords of the wicked have bound me,

But I have not forgotten Your law.

62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks to You,

Because of Your righteous judgments.

63 I am a companion of all who fear You,

And of those who keep Your precepts.

64 The earth, O LORD, is full of Your mercy;

Teach me Your statutes.

One translation translates v. 57 simply as “Lord, you are mine!”. I love that! He is our God. As Christians we throw around the phrase: personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  But that is exactly what it is: a personal relationship – a closeness and oneness with God.

This passage shows us how we can have that full oneness with God.

v. 57 – Keep His words – If I love Him, then I also want to obey Him. His commands may be difficult in some ways, but are there to protect us. I John 5:3

v. 58 – Seek Him with your whole heart – So often our relationship with God is lacking diligence and fervency on our part.  Simple question – are we seeking Him with our whole heart?

v.59 – Contemplate the ways of the Lord and make the changes needed – As I grow closer to Him, I desire to be more like Him.  That means there are areas of my life that I want to work on to be more like Him.

v.60 – Move quickly – I see the importance of my relationship with Him and I do not delay in making it as strong as it could be.

As we desire to grow, there will be difficulties – wicked people pulling you down (v.61), but how will we respond? Will we thank Him in times of darkness (v.62)? In tough times will we use the body of Christ for support (v.63)?

This is a great passage in Psalms that really makes us stop and think: God is my God…. How do I respond to that? Do I seek Him with my whole heart? Do I seek Him in tough times?

He is your God and He desires to have a closeness with relationship.  Dwell on James 4:8 as we finish up: Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

Drawn near to Him and see the blessing of God being your God.
