81 My soul faints for Your salvation,

But I hope in Your word.

82 My eyes fail from searching Your word,

Saying, “When will You comfort me?”

83 For I have become like a wineskin in smoke,

Yet I do not forget Your statutes.

84 How many are the days of Your servant?

When will You execute judgment on those who persecute me?

85 The proud have dug pits for me,

Which is not according to Your law.

86 All Your commandments are faithful;

They persecute me wrongfully;

Help me!

87 They almost made an end of me on earth,

But I did not forsake Your precepts.

88 Revive me according to Your lovingkindness,

So that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth.

Help me! (v.86)

How often have we in our spirit cried out to the Lord for help.  This world is tough, discouraging, and depressing.  There are days where we feel like we just want to be done, give-up, and quit.  Our passage today shows us that in those tough times God’s word is our strength.

Look at the words and imagery in this Psalm: faints (v.81), fail (v.82), shriveled up/dried out (v.83). Doesn’t that sound like the difficulties we face in life? But….

Yet I do not forget Your statutes. (v.83). Amen! In the midst of trials and struggles, I remember the strength that comes from His word.

The Psalmists continues seeing the strength from the word of God:

All Your commandments are faithful… (v.86)

But I did not forsake Your precepts…. (v.87)

The final verse reminds us that we are refreshed in the Lord to face thess tough struggles in life.  Revive me according to Your lovingkindness, so that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth. (v.88)

Is your strength failing? Is your heart fainting? Are you spiritually exhausted and dried up?

Pray over this passage from Jeremiah and allow Him and His word to be the strength you need in difficult times.

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,

And whose hope is the LORD.

For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,

Which spreads out its roots by the river,

And will not fear when heat comes;

But its leaf will be green,

And will not be anxious in the year of drought,

Nor will cease from yielding fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8
